SUNY Oswego's Office of International Education and Programs and the Department of Health and Wellness Management are offering a unique educational program. This program provides students with an opportunity to not only visit, explore and learn about Peru but to embark on an adventure of a lifetime…hiking the Inca trail to Machu Picchu .
The course, PED 399 - Peru: Machu Picchu and Lake Titicaca is on SUNY Oswego’s Fall 2013 schedule, followed by a 2-week trip to Peru in January 2014. The course will focus on important topics such as nutrition; physical and mental fitness; language, history and culture of Peru; as well as trip preparation. Each area will be covered by SUNY Oswego faculty and staff specialized in each respective field. ALL participants are required to follow a 3-months rigorous fitness training (including climbing Giant Mountain ) and preparation before the trip to ensure safety and readiness.
This program is also available to students who are willing to conduct research and participate in discussions focused on the Lake Titicaca ecosystem (BIO 301). The students taking BIO 301 are required to fulfill the requirements of PED 399 plus additional research under the supervision of Dr. Richard Back.
A well-known and respected guild agency will provide guide, porters, lounging facilities and medical support. The leading faculty (Dr. Mehran Nojan ) has extensive mountain climbing experiences and she successfully led SUNY Oswego 2012 and 2013 Kilimanjaro teams.
